About the role

The Software Engineer contributes to the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of digital products and platforms. Working within a cross-functional product team, the role collaborates with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Designers, and other Engineers to deliver secure, reliable, and maintainable software solutions that create business value.

The role applies established engineering practices, tools, and cloud technologies to implement well-defined solutions while building technical capability across the software development lifecycle. The engineer is expected to work independently on routine and moderately complex tasks, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and seek guidance when addressing unfamiliar or more complex technical challenges.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, deploy, and maintain software applications using approved technologies, frameworks, and engineering practices.
  • Deliver user stories and technical tasks within agreed sprint commitments.
  • Build responsive, accessible, and maintainable user interfaces and backend services.
  • Implement software solutions aligned with established architecture patterns, coding standards, and security requirements.
  • Participate in peer code reviews and incorporate feedback to improve code quality and consistency.
  • Create and maintain unit and integration tests for assigned functionality.
  • Support defect analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution activities.
  • Apply secure coding principles and follow established security standards and practices.
  • Ensure solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements, including reliability, performance, and maintainability expectations.
  • Contribute to remediation of vulnerabilities, technical debt, and production issues.
  • Support quality assurance activities through testing, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in production support and incident response activities.
  • Develop and support cloud-native applications using AWS services and approved engineering patterns.
  • Actively participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Develop technical capability across software engineering, cloud technologies, testing, security, and modern development practices.
  • Build understanding of business processes, products, and customer needs.
  • Seek feedback and learning opportunities to expand technical and professional skills.

Skills & Experience

Required Experience / Essential Skills

  • 2–4 years of professional software engineering experience following formal academic studies.
  • Proficiency developing modern web applications using: TypeScript, React, Node.js, HTML,CSS
  • Experience using modern front-end build and development tools including npm, Vite, and Webpack.
  • Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Experience creating and maintaining unit and integration tests.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience using Git version control, including branching strategies, pull requests, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within Agile product delivery teams and manage competing priorities.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with AWS cloud services
  • Working knowledge of GraphQL APIs.
  • Experience developing and supporting applications on a major public cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Understanding cloud-native application concepts including APIs, event-driven architectures, serverless computing, managed services, monitoring, and operational support.
  • Experience working with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform, Bicep, SAM, Serverless Framework, or equivalent.
  • Experience building or supporting event-driven and serverless architectures.
  • Experience with AWS CDK, CloudFormation, SAM, or Serverless Framework.
  • Exposure to microservice-based architectures.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with Docker and containerized application development.
  • Familiarity with observability, monitoring, and logging tools.
  • Experience working in product-centric Agile delivery environments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant professional certifications are desirable, such as those related to AWS cloud environment and in particular cloud-native serverless (eg AWS Developer and Solution Architect certifications)
  • Postgraduate qualifications (e.g. Masters degree) are advantageous, particularly where they support the design and development of software solutions.
